Entrepreneurial Engineer wanted for Web Start Up Team

SF Bay - eng - 5 hours 51 min ago

Do you want to get in on the ground floor of a start up and share in the profits rather than just slaving away for somebody else? Are you between jobs, recently graduated or have extra time for coding with your current position?

We are a pair of experienced entrepreneurs seeking a web engineer to round out our start up team. We are developing a fantastic idea in the online game space (both Facebook-Social and MMO) with several proven monetization models involving virtual goods and solving a variety of problems for gamers and game developers/publishers. We have experience raising VC funding, have both worked in this space and have launched and sold successful consumer internet companies in the past. Our goal is to launch and market a prototype site that we can use to raise a round of funding after we have gained some initial traction and started to generate revenue.

Ideally you would work for equity only (come in as a full co-founder) but we might also consider some combination of cash and equity with the right person.

We are looking for someone who preferably has worked in a start-up environment in the past, and has experience building consumer facing websites, preferably working with open source tools, including MySQL, Google Analytics, Bugzilla or Jira, content management systems (Drupal, Joomla), etc.. Ecommerce experience is a plus.

Candidates must have a degree from a top engineering school and have hands-on experience and all relevant skills to handle both back and front end coding (PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript,, AJAX, JSON, XML and JAVA) to start building our portal which will have e-commerce , user-generated content and Wiki elements. This will mostly be a hands-on proposition to start, but we will also bring in interns, contractors, etc. who you will manage.

Please apply with a resume and cover letter explaining why you would be the right person to join our team. Experienced candidates only.

If you are currently an engineering student with limited experience but some of the requisite skills, we would also consider adding you to our team as an intern with appropriate pay and equity. Please add "intern" to the subject line when contacting us.

Check out OLX.com and Ebay Classifieds for a taste of what I'm thinking about. - 1+ years programming experience with PHP
- Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming, MVC Frameworks.

- Strong problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional communication and time management skills.
- Positive, Team-Oriented attitude.

Honesty Up Front:
-Paid in sweat equity (equity offer). We can arrange a small compensation or an iPad however as I said this is a boostrapped venture so everything would be coming out of my own pockets.
- I have a day job and I work on this project in my off hours. I anticipate the same for any candidate although if you are unemployed and want to pursue this fulltime, being a co-founder is possible.

The Mozart of UX/UI and a Drupal God. (Redmond)

Seattle - web - 13 hours 19 min ago

Is that you?

We need someone to do UX/UI design work for our startup. We're a small company about to make it big, and we need a deeply talented UX/UI designer to perfect the site.

Are you irritated by poor site design and unharmonious graphics?

Can you do it better?

We need someone to deal with graphics, theming, and content management.

YOU: An artist who does theming and messing around with graphic design for the fun of it, a geek who has a 19 INT and a love of open-source web technologies, monster skinning skillz in Drupal/CSS, absolutely perfect English so you can correct any typos on the site, a deep understanding of social networking technologies like Twitter and Facebook, and lives in the Seattle area (or at least can get to Redmond fairly easily). I don't give a damn if you're 18 and have zero job experience or if you're 50 with seventeen degrees and an MSCD; I need a genius, not a corporate hackdrone.

US: Meganerds with an idea we're all working to develop. We're about a month away from going HUGE; we'll be promoting at places like GenCon, PAX Prime, SDCC, DragonCon, etc. A database designer, a mid to backend web and CMS developer, two nontechnical types who will be handing you content and site updates, and me. I'm the site founder and a frontend web dev and I'm currently doing your job--badly.

We need someone who loves design to seriously increase this site's AQ (Awesomeness Quotient). We're thinking of doing a comic book/fantasy theme. We have some great, well-known fantasy artists at our beck and call to do custom illustration and graphics work to make this site awesome. What do you think about maybe using a comic book font for some of the headers? I'm getting a custom avatar drawn of myself and I have some other ideas I'll want to talk to you about.

_____________________QUALIFICATIONS_______________________

You should be brilliant at:

GRAPHIC DESIGN--using GIMP or Photoshop or whatever your chosen graphics program is.
ENGLISH--either your first language or perfect fluency; you'll be getting content for the site from at least one person whose first language is Polish, so you need to have perfect spelling and grammar to fix her occasional mistakes and spot others.
UX/UI FLOW AND PLANNING--you need to have an intuitive feel for awesome, simple site layouts.

You should be very good with:

DRUPAL--at least understand the modules, theming, and can seriously trick out a skin for this CMS.
CSS
HTML

You should have some familiarity with:

PHP--Drupal and the rest of the site are written in this language; you don't have to write it, but you should at least know what it looks like and be able to cut-and-paste an include tag if you need to.
SOCIAL NETWORKING--We need to integrate closely with the social networking sites out there. At least have a presence on Twitter and Facebook so that you understand what they're all about.

_____________________HOW TO GET THIS JOB_______________________

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THIS. IF YOU FAIL TO FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE DIRECTIONS, I DON'T WANT YOU TOUCHING MY GLORIOUS CODE AND TREASURED SITE, AND I WILL IMMEDIATELY JUNK YOUR EMAIL.

(1) Do NOT send me a resume.
(2) Do NOT respond to this ad through Craigslist.
(3) Send an email to LAMPKILLER at GMAIL dot COM with links to 5 sample sites you have done the UX/UI for by August 21st, 2010. In the subject line, put the word "Mozart" somewhere, so I know you're not a bot.

I look forward to talking to you!

Operations Manager - Dental Network - Tele-Commute (NYC Metro Area)

New York - web - Thu, 07/29/2010 - 00:21
We are a start up company, an on line Dental Benefits Plan, located in the NYC Metro area. We have a substantial website up and running. We are seeking an operations manager to work directly with our CEO...someone with good communications and computer skills, including some familiarity with IT and/or programming. Compensation will be an equity position, and, initially, there will be little or no regular income, due to limited revenue. If you are seeking a conventional position with regular payroll, sorry this is not a good fit. We are a small group of skilled people, each adding his or her experience to the mix. We have long experience in the employee benefits field, and this plan is a clone of existing and successful dental plans, so we look forward to subtantial earnings potential when we have put together all the pieces of the puzzle. This may be ideal if you are a graduate student or have a regular job. Work from your home or office. Hours are flexible, and initially only a few hours a week may be ok. Experience in marketing, IT, programming, medical or dental office management, or insurance will be helpful. A resume is fine, but we do want an email from you with any questions you may have, as well as some indication of your possible suitability for this position.
